New 2014 Tutima timepieces
Since 1927, Tutima has been crafting some of the finest watches in history for military and professional sports use. By 1941, the brand was creating sophisticated Flieger Chronographs – a tradition it continues today thanks to the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Tutima is a family owned and operated company based in Glashutte that has been able to rekindle its global watchmaking status.
In fact, in recent years, the brand has built a totally new Manufacture in Glashutte (stie of its original pre-Berlin Wall workshops). This totally integrated venture has enabled the brand to not only create its top-notch pilots watches, but also to enter the world of haute horology watchmaking. In typical German style, Tutima has developed its own in-house-made watch movement, built several calibers and is delivering new timepieces that are completely “Made in Glashutte.”
The fully integrated manufacture is building top-notch chronographs with in-house made hand-wound movements. Among the key collections are the new Patria line and the Saxon One series. The Patria collection is more of a calssic, elegant line with a totally in-house made movement: manually wound caliber 617 with superb finishing. The gold-plated movement with three-quarter plate (a component symbolic of 19th century Glashutte pocket watches) features ribbing, sunburst and other finsihes—all visiable viea a transparent caes bck. Even the pallet lever made in filigreed steel is meticulously finished by hand.
The 44mm Saxon One chronograph is crafted in stainless steel and offers an unusual case 
architecture: it is a boldly rounded four-cornered cushion-shaped case with 3D angles and a round bezel. The pushers are molded to curve along the case side, flanking the screw-in crown. The watch houses the mechanical automatic-winding Caliber 521, with chronograph module developed in house by Tutima. The highly functional timepieces is equipped with 40 hours of power reserve, offers a sweep-minute totalizer on the outer ring of the dial, as well as 24-hour and date display. All Tutima watches are superbly crafted and offer all the key elements one wants from a sophisticated German timepiece.
