Today’s renaissance man has an affinity for any number of noble endeavors, be it cycling, surfing, running, auto racing, or writing for a watch blog, To suit the needs of today’s consumers, Swiss brand Baume & Mercier has sought to create a line of watches that are as versatile as their multifaceted owners. Created for the “gentlesportsman,” Baume & Mercier unveils new watches in a lineup it calls the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club.
The Clifton Club collection is an expansion of the brand’s Clifton Collection, but designed for the urban, active man. It is meant to be a sporty piece that can stand the rigors of an active lifestyle while retaining classical elements.
Attributes of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club watches
In keeping with those themes, the watches are all shock resistant up 550g and sized at a reasonable 42mm. The cases are made of highly durable 316L stainless steel and the thickness of the watch measures 10.3 mm. All of this means that it will slide easily under a shirt cuff and can also be worn while playing sports. The color options for the dial of the watch are the tried-and-true black, white and blue motifs, however there are several styling elements that add standout appeal.

Each of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club watches — and there are five models — features bold orange accents. The second hand is orange, the same orange color is carried onto the bezel and on to some of the straps. All of the indicies as well as the tip of the orange second hand have Super Luminova treatment and allow for added legibility in low light scenarios, and no sport watch is complete without a healthy dose of Super Luminova.
Five Versions of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Collection
Among the five versions being offered in the official launch of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club are two polished/satin finished stainless steel cased models with an “All Road” calfskin strap that features an embossed sailcloth-like fabric exclusive to Baume & Mercier. It is lined with orange rubberized calfskin, edged on the reverse, and is made to be a durable to dry and wet friction, UV rays, and the athletic wear and tear the watch was designed to be worn for.
There are also two versions with a polished/satin-finished stainless steel case (black or blue dial) with a steel integrated bracelet for more urban appeal. Finally there is an all-black version with a black ADLC sand-blasted case. Amorphous Diamond-like Carbon is incredibly hard and resistant to scratches and all manner of trauma. This version is presented on a black vulcanized rubber strap with openworked sections to allow ventilation for the wrist.
Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Collection comes in bracelet or strap versions.
All bracelets and straps feature a triple folding buckle with two side push-pieces in stainless steel to guarantee security and ease of opening. This in-house design bears the “Phi” logo stamped on the top. Only the black rubber version comes with a wide pin buckle in satin-finished stainless steel, also decorated with Baume & Mercier’s “Phi” logo.
