Today we celebrate the 45th Earth Day. As such, in New York, Jaeger-LeCoultre and UNESCO also celebrate in a big way, and if you are in New York this week for Madison Avenue Watch Week, you will want to pay a visit to the Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique (801 Maidens Ave (near 62nd Street) for a first-hand look at that celebration. In honor of Earth Day, and of its extensive involvement with the Marine Heritage sites of UNESCO, Jaeger-LeCoultre has established a superb exhibit of photographs by renowned, award-winning nature photographer Mark Kelley.

In fact, today, Jaeger-LeCoultre held a press conference with UNESCO at the boutique about the brand’s work with UNESCO. Jaeger-LeCoultre, which produces some of the finest Swiss-made watches, has been working with UNESCO for the past seven years to support and protect the 47 marine heritage sites on the list. Each year, Jaeger-LeCoultre puts specific emphasis on one of those sites; this year that spotlight is on Glacier Bay National Park USA — on the Alaska/Canada border. The Park and Reserve was declared a national monument back in 1925 and joined the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1992.
Together, Jaeger-LeCoultre and UNESCO created a special video about Glacier Bay and its incredible marine life. That film was released this morning — just minutes ago — and you can view it in all its beauty and majesty by clicking below.
Meanwhile, at the New York boutique, the exhibit, “A Journey Through World Heritage Site: Glacier Bay National Park (USA)” has many great images by Kelley on display that depict some of the last glaciers and fjords in our country, and offer some stunning marine and wildlife moments in time. The exhibit is on display from 10 am to 6pm everyday through April 25.

The affiliation between the brand and UNESCO is no surprise, as Jaeger-LeCoultre has been a supporter of exploration and conservation for years. In fact, the brand created the Geophysic(R) watch in 1958 in honor of the that year’s global science expeditions to learn more about Earth’s poles. Today, the brand pays tribute to that in the Geophysic(R) Tribute to 1958 watch — which you can view at the boutique this week.
