Diamonds International, the Caribbean’s premier duty-free jewelry retailer, recently released a documentary film (approximately 26 minutes in length) that focuses on Namibia, its history and its beauty. The intention is to educate the world about this country, which it says is the “shining diamond of Africa.” Owned by Almod Diamonds LTD, which has a US-patented diamond called the Crown of Light, Diamonds International also hopes to bring attention to the beauty and brillance of the patented cut, which is and always has been created in Namibia.
Namibia is one of the youngest nations in Africa, having just gained independence from South Africa in 1990. The country’s economy is based largely on mining, as it contributes 3 billion dollars to the diamond industry alone. Diamonds International, founded in 1988, is the exclusive retailer of the Crown of Light diamond (also known as the Namibian Star), and Almod Diamonds Ltd. is the manufacturing affiliate. By continually operating its facilities in Namibia, Diamonds International and Almot have been able to employ locals, help with schools and other needs, and deliver support to a local orphanage. “In this world, it’s not just about taking, it’s about giving back,” says Albert Gad, CEO & President of Diamonds International.
Namibia’s beauty, uniqueness, and lavish culture inspired the new film, which you can view below. There are also 1-minute, 15-minute and 38-minute videos. (For safari images elsewhere in South Africa, read this.)
