Bonhams has a pretty unique auction going on now online (since August 12) and lasting until August 22, 2022, and true Rolex or Hulk lovers still have a chance to get in on it. A single owner has put up his collection of 11 Rolex Submariner “Hulk” watches for auction. All watches are new old stock and have never been worn.
The Rolex Submariner Hulk watches got their nickname from the green dial and green ceramic bezel that grace the stainless steel bracelet watches. They are all diving watches, Reference 116610LV,and together they represent 11 years of production, one each for the years 2010 to 2020. All watches are automatic calendar pieces sold in their original boxes, with papers and receipts.
This is a rare chance for watch collectors to obtain an almost-impossible-to-find Hulk watch. The estimated range for each watch is between $30,000 and $40,000 or $40,000 to $60,000 depending on the year. The 2010, the year the watch was launched, is estimated to fetch that $60,000 price tag. Bidding starts at $28,500 and goes upward – excluding the 12th item up for bids: a limited edition quarter-scale 2.6 foot tall sculpture of the Hulk character by NMK Studios. It is estimated to sell for between $2,000 and $3,000.
For those lucky enough to be attending the Motor Sports Week in Monterey this week, the collection is on view at Bonhams Quail Auction of collector cars today and tomorrow. For more information on bidding online, visit Bonhams.
More like a backdoor flipper trying to drop his stock seeing the recent crash in Rolex prices
I don’t know if 10 years of collecting one watch per year qualifies as a backdoor flipper, but he could be seen as dropping his or her stock. Doubt we will ever know.
No one should bid for these watches. Someone who buys popular watches just to resell them for outrageous amounts of money should not be rewarded for his/her greedy behaviour!
I am not sure the owner of these watches, who collected one per year over the course of 10 years, can be considered greedy. Perhaps he or she never really even intended to put them up for auction. Ten years is a long time to wait to be “rewarded” but thank you for your opinion.
