I seem to have a love affair with German watch brands. There is something special about the clean designs and the unflagging functionality of top-notch German watch brands. Tutima has all of this, as well as a great value/quality aspect. Additionally, the brand doesn’t need to make a lot of noise about itself. Once you pick up one of these watches and do some comparisons, you know you are getting quality craftsmanship, great product look and reliability. Recently, we had the chance to go hands on with the newest 40mm midnight grey dial Tutima Saxon One M, and we were impressed.
The Saxon One collection represents the brand’s opening price point, with automatic watches with day, date and other functions — not to mention great blue, maroon and chocolate brown dial colors — starting at just about $2,000. Now Tutima adds a 40mm size to the mix — perfect for under shirt cuffs and even for women who love a robust timepiece. Additionally, the brand now adds a Midnight Grey dial to the mix.
Among the highlights of this watch that set it apart in design is the case itself, with stepped pyramid design whose angles and edges define it as a work of geometric beauty. Another aspect is the integrated case/bracelet design. While the case is polished, the lugs at the top and bottom that meet the strap or bracelet are matte finished for nice contrast. The round fluted bezel completes the sophisticated look. The new slate gray dial of the three-hand watch is finished with baton-shaped indexes and a date window. Super-LumiNova on the skeletonized hands and the dots found above the indexes guarantee easy reading at night or in the dark.
The self-winding Tutima Caliber 330 (a modified ETA movement) powers the watch and is equipped with Tutima Glashutte’s in-house-made rotor with 18-karat gold seal. With 38 hours of power reserve, the watch, with screw-down crown, is water resistant to 10 ATM, is pressure tested to 10 bar. The movement and rotor can be viewed via the transparent sapphire case back, which, like the sapphire crystal, features an antireflective coating. Offered with a steel bracelet or with a brown leather strap, the watch retails for just about $2,000. My favorite is the version with the brown strap because it has a vintage feel and look. The entire Saxon One M line retails from $1,950 to $2,350.
