It was another on-line sale of specially made watches — offered exclusively just last week via our friends and colleagues over at Hodinkee — that has created quite a buzz. The specially made Vacheron Constantin watch represented the brand’s first co-designed collaboration. Now, if you read Hodinkee frequently, you would know that the original Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 watch is a favorite of theirs (or at least of founder, Benjamin Clymer). So, the choice of this watch as a special edition was not a big surprise. The point is, though that the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 Limited Edition for Hodinkee 36-piece collection, priced at $45,000 USD each, has totally sold out. In fact, there is now a waiting list should any of those first-come-first-server takers opt out (but why would they?).
All design decisions that went into the making of the watch were the result of a year-long collaborative partnership between Hodinkee and Vacheron Constantin Artistic Director, Christian Selmoni. The limited-edition timepiece features a stainless steel case, a grey dial with a distinct pulsometer scale (the original watch of the 1950’s had a chronograph). The watch is sold with three straps: A grey alligator leather strap by Vacheron Constantin and two leather straps by Hodinkee.
