Expect it to be a real collector’s item. The all-new blue dial Patek Philippe Ref. 5930 World Time Chronograph watch has so much going for it that it is difficult to paring it all down to the top three reasons it will be a success, but we will try.
1 This watch just might be the thinnest and smallest world time chronograph on the market. Inspired by a single world time chronograph watch produced by Patek Philippe in 1940, the new watch is an unexpected surprise from the brand. This is something Patek Philippe is good at: surprising us with something vintage but giving it a modern twist.
2. The functions are superb. The 39.5mm white gold timepiece is chocked with information, including time in 24 zones and a 30-minute flyback chronograph and marks the first time the brand is putting such a combination into production. Combining these two key functions into one caliber was no easy feat, but with this watch Patek Philippe has set a number of things in motion – harmoniously and in a user-friendly manner. The world timer is activated via a button at 10:00 and when zones are being changed, the hour hand disengages from the movement so that the minute hand is unaffected. Additionally, the chronograph hand can run continuously.
The watch offers the best of two types of functions together in one caliber.
3. The technical aspects delight. Essentially, the watch combines the best of two movements into one new caliber: CH 28-520 HU. The highly technical and precise movement is equipped with the brand’s Gyromax® balance and patented Spiromax(T) balance spring made of Silinvar®. With movement cased, the watch measures just 12.86mm.
