Iconic watches are not seasonal — especially when they are one of the most famed timepieces of the 20th century. Corum’s Admiral Cup watch collection, while geared for sailing the seven seas, is one of the most timeless watches on the market. In fact, the first Admiral’s Cup watches made their debut in 1960, and have become legendary in their own right. Here, we take a look at the new Corum Admiral Cup Legend timepieces — four 42mm pieces (including an automatic and a chronograph), as well as more than a dozen 38mm and 32mm watches. See why the brand got it right.
Iconic design. First, the men’s 42mm piece is simply striking in looks. The 12-sided case in steel, or in steel and rose gold, with a blue or white dial on the automatic version, and with a blue or black on the chronograph, is simply true to its roots. As to the smaller models, Corum takes the tasteful approach and added a few alluring touches of tropical hues and colorful pennants that bring the famed sailing design to life. White mother of pearl is an option on certain modes land diamond accents also yield a modern flair.
Size matters. The new larger automatics and chronographs are at a nicely wearable size of 42mm. This is in tune with today’s trends. Additionally, the new collection is being released in two smaller sizes: a 32mm perfect for women and a 38mm perfect for the woman who likes a larger watch and for the man who prefers a smaller timepiece. The 38mm goes both ways and its curved lines have true appeal.
Alluring dials. The 12-sided lines of the case of this watch have been somewhat softened for a subtle appeal. The watches are offered in steel, rose gold or two tone versions and have a host of dial options that induce white mother of pearl, white and blue — all with the 12 signature brightly colored nautical pennants, and some with diamond accents. While the smaller models are a wash in whites and blue, the larger 42mm versions have dials in brown, black, ivory and blue. In all, there are 17 different versions of the new watch.
Modern Movement. It wouldn’t be Corum’s Admiral’s Cup if it wasn’t powered by an automatic movement bearing the Corum signature key. The Admiral Legend watches offer hour, minutes, seconds and date display (on the 38mm model). The C0-082 movement in the 38mm version offers 42 hours of power reserve, while the CO 400 movement in the 32mm model offers 40 hours of power reserve. The larger 42mm watch are powered by the Caliber 395 with hour, minute, small second and date splay,a s well as 42 hours of power reserve.
The iconic design of the Corum Admiral’s Cup watches — first unveiled to the world in 1960 — features colorful nautical pennants on the dial.
Finishing touches on the Admiral’s Cup Legend watches include sapphire case backs and water resistance to 50 meters. They are finished with a color-coordinated rubber or alligator-leather strap, or a steel or two-tone metal bracelet.
