Recently, and again here at BaselWorld 2014, the very well-known and respected DeBethune unveils its Dream Watch 5. The timepiece is a delight to look at from all angles and a beauty to wear – easily distinguishable and definitively eye-catching. What’s more, the brand is unveiling another version of this watch at BaselWorld that we are pleased to be first to publish internationally — and it’s a sleek beauty created in shimmering black in a slightly larger case size.
The introduction of this watch got us to thinking about the previous Dream Watches from DeBethune. The effort was first begun 10 years ago, with new Dream Watches unveiled every two years. Interestingly images exist from DeBethune of only 3 of the other 4. Dream Watch 2 was a one of a kind Tourbillon– the first with the signature flexible lugs. No pictures could Be found at the time of this post. Nevertheless, we bring you a slide show below — with complete descriptions — that reminisces about the DeBethune Dream Watches.
Before that, however, just ponder a minute about what prompted DeBethune to create a Dream Watch and what exactly a Dream Watch is. Essentially, the concept is to transcend the art of horology through artistry – in order to allow true emotions and beauty to come into play. This was the idea behind the first Dream Watch introduced by David Zanetta and Denis Flageollet of DeBethune. They continued in this direction for subsequent Dream Watches, combining traditional knowledge with visionary creations and aesthetics. The new Dream Watch 5 has a shape inspired by the bridge of the Dream Watch 1, but the design is pared down to a distinctive, avant-garde, space-related motif. To achieve its slim elegance, the 329-part mechanical hand wound Calibre DB2144 movement has been significantly miniaturized and reduced. The watch offers moonphase and minute indications and hours via jumping hour at 3:00. It may be the culminating pinnacle of all previous Dream Watches. But you decide when viewing the slide show below. Enjoy.
