Manufacture Royale –a five-year-old brand brand with roots dating back to Voltaire and the Age of Enlightenment — has been on the cutting edge of aesthetics and technology since its rebirth. We have covered the brand here before, but now we bring you the newest 1770 Voltige watch.
Part of the brand’s 1770 Collection, this 1770 Voltige watch is the brand’s first timepiece not to incorporate a tourbillon. It is the first watch to be made in the affordable price range of $33,000 (for the stainless steel version) and – the best part – it is the first to feature an inside-out movement architecture.
The escapement and balance are dial side.
In fact, the 45mm watch displays its beating escapement (along with pallet fork and balance) above the dial– in full beauty. The extra large balance (14mm in diameter) is an incredible eye-catcher, and is offset only by the graduated arc-shaped bridge that holds it in place.
The aesthetic beauty – that offers hours, minutes and seconds (in a grid-patterned subdial at 6:00) — was designed and built in house. It required a completely new movement – with components configured differently than any traditional timepiece. It is powered by the mechanical self-winding MR05 calibre that offers 40 hours of power reserve and features a transparent sapphire caseback for viewing the rest of the movement.

Not only is the new caliber and its dial-side architecture a statement of technology, but also, the constant motion of the balance spring is a mesmerizing statement of beauty.
