Ironically, a year ago to the day, ATimelyPerspective helped introduce the independent watchmaker Alexandre Meerson. Within that article we touched on the Altitude collection which showcases distinct and comfortable Swiss-made watches while implementing a heavy art deco design. This time around we are again here to introduce another new model, the Meerson D15.
Inside this new COSC-certified chronometer timepiece is a Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier automatic calibre with a Dubois Debraz complication. Complete with its 189 components, 28 jewels and 4 Hz frequency, this timepiece has a 50 hour power reserve through its reinforced two barrels. The Meerson D15 displays the standard time within its three central hands. However, the fourth red-tipped hand serves as the 24-hour dual-time indicator while the sub-dial at 6 o’clock displays the date to form a simplified yet refined dial. Selling for $20,700, this piece retains the traditional element of creating a well-crafted, precise timepiece while truly adding its own unique element of style.
The Meerson D15 is very much a sport-inspired dual-time traveller’s watch. Its 44mm casing is available in a highly durable grade 5 titanium as well a classy 18 K grey gold with an optional diamond-like carbon treatment to provide an ultra-scratch resistance. The case design is quite robust with its screwed down crown and component junction micro-gutters which hinder the build up of destructive dust and moisture among components. To add to the watch’s durability and sport-minded attributes, the Meerson D15 is waterproof up to 100m (330ft).
Of course to help characterize this new timepiece, Alexandre Meerson has teamed up with a positively rugged sports figure, international rugby player Adam Ashley-Cooper. Sydney native, Ashley-Cooper is the brand’s very first ambassador and comes with quite a remarkable resume. His prestigious 100-game milestone makes him just one of five Australian players to have reached such an accomplishment for his home country.
Looking forward to such a partnership, Alexandre Meerson’s believes the relationship is well suited saying the Meerson brand is, “inspired by values of integrity and boldness, and by men and women who practice their craft with relentless determination, while our style is a subtle balance of strength and finesse.” Adam Ashley-Cooper has yet another opportunity to practice his craft on the grandest of stages this month as the Rugby World Cup kicks off. Ashley-Cooper will help lead the Wallabies in their first match against Fiji on September 23rd.
The Meerson D15 is already available for pre-orders now through the Alexandre Meerson website and KENJO NYC, while it will be officially for sale as of this November.
