1929 Mercedes Benz Wins 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Rolex Best of Show Award (Slideshow: Top 10 Highlights of Monterey Classic Car Week)

Every year for more than half a century, some of the greatest motorsports events take place in Monterey, California. This past weekend was the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which started back in 1955 and is easily the most sophisticated and prestigious of all motorsports events. With Rolex as the Official Timepiece of Concours d’Elegance and the title sponsor of the Rolex Best of Show Award, the event – and the entire Monterey Classic Car Week – is the best blend of both cars and watches. With more than 200 automobiles in the running for the most important honor, it was a 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer that took the highest award. The owner. Bruce McGaw, of the pre-war-era car also received a coveted Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41 with special engraving on the caseback.

According to McGaw, “You really do see the best of the best at Pebble Beach so when I looked at the field, I didn’t know how I could compete.”

In addition to the amazing Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the weekend was chocked with other great events, including the incredibly exciting Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion races at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – which this year celebrates its 60^th anniversary.
