This year at Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, SIHH 2018, Greubel Forsey unveiled its Double Balancier Sapphire watch. Not the first sapphire-encased watch released by the brand, the new timepiece offers an incomparable view inside the watch, which houses Greubel Forsey’s sixth “fundamental invention.” Now, the brand has created a video of the Double Balancier Sapphire Watch that lets customers experience the visual journey from front to back of this $695,000 watch.
Before you jump into the video below, let me give you a few specs on the 43 mm watch. The key piece of information lies in the timepiece’s name: it features double free-sprung balances inclined at a 30-degree angle. They balances are connected using a spherical differential gear in order to provide consistent amplitude and precision. There is a constant rotation between the two balances that one may be able to see in the video. Again, this is not a new timepiece for the brand, it is just that now Greubel Forsey encases it in sapphire — machined from a single block of crystal using diamond cutting tools. The watch is exclusive to North America, retails for $695,000, and is created in a limited edition of 11 pieces.
You can view the video, which is highly revealing of the movement, below.
