F.P. Journe revisits two important sports watches with updated newness just in time for the holidays. Now, lovers of the F.P. Journe Centigraphe Sport and Octa Sport watches can find them in a 44mm case made of Grade 5 Titanium darkened to an anthracite color and featuring bold yellow dials. Each of these watches features a bezel made of titanium and ceramic so that the overall look of the watches encapsulates what the sport line from F.P. Journe is supposed to be: highly durable and the essence of peak performance.
The two pieces scream cool and are aesthetically unlike anything else on the market right now. A bright yellow dial juxtaposed against a 44mm case of Titanium grade 5 in an anthracite color scream awesomeness. Titanium was selected as the metal of choice for the piece as it encapsulates what the sport line from FP Journe is supposed to be, highly durable and the essence of peak performance. The same metal is used in boating, aeronautics and racing for the same reasons. When it comes to land, sea and air the metal has proven to be resilient and its light weight has been crucial when it comes to chasing the fastest speed records. In keeping with the performance theme of the piece, the movement is comprised of an Aluminum alloy with each watch weighing only 75 grams.

If you have followed FP Journe over the years then the mechanics of the Centigraphe Sport and Octa Sport are well known. In fact, we here at A Timely Perspective went hands on with both pieces in a different color way in the past. As a refresher, the hand wound mechanical Centigraphe indicates elapsed time from 100th of a second to 10 minutes which is visible and displayed on the three prominent subdials. The Octa Sport hosts a day/night complication and a larger date window than prior models (4.7 x 2.6mm) for added legibility. Powered is supplied to the automatic piece via a Titanium rotor and Tungsten segment that helps to provide 160 hours of power reserve.
The Centigraphe also features two patents: Patented ergonomic chronograph: The chronograph is started, stopped and zeroed by a rocker at 2 o’clock in the case band, instead of the usual buttons on either side of the crown. This ergonomic design, perfectly fitted to the wristwatch, is patented (No EP 818 734 A1).Patented chronograph mechanism: A second patent (No EP 1 978 424 A1) was granted for the mechanism’s ingenious configuration, which effectively isolates the chronograph from the timekeeping function. This means the balance amplitude is unaffected when the chronograph is running. The hands of the 100th of a second counter, the 20 seconds, and the 10 minutes hand are driven by 2 different wheel trains, themselves driven by the centre of the mainspring. Another separate train of wheels, also driven by the barrel arbor, drives the 10-minutes hand.
The Centigraphe Sport and the Octa Sport are also available with a case and bracelet in Platinum or 18K red Gold with hammered finish.
