This past Sunday, tennis legend Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open for the eighth time — bringing his total Grand Slam wins to an incredible 17. As such, when he collaborated with the Japanese brand on his watches, the colors of his Serbian flag — as well as the colors of Seiko’s Japanese flag — come into play. Created in a limited edition of just 1,500 pieces — and in stores beginning this month — the new GPS Solar Novak Djokovic with is powered by the GPS Solar Caliber 5X53 Dual-Time that connects up to twice a day to the GPS network (when the dial detects sunlight) to maintain its precision anywhere in the world — adjusting automatically to the correct time. One of the best things about this watch is that it automatically adjusts to Daylight Saving Time.
When the wearer changes time zones, a simple push o a button advances the hands to the correct local time, thanks to the system that also moves the hour, minute, and seconds hands independently. For those who prefer to see local time small and home time large, they can make that shift (and vice versa) as well.
The design of the watch incorporates the red and white colors shared by both Djokovic’s and Seiko’s flags. Additionally, the time zones of Serbia and Japan are highlighted in red on the UTC indicator ring at the +1 and +9 positions. In the new piece, the dial ring is white, while the ceramic bezel is a rich blue hue with a thin red line through it. For those who are tennis fans, and especially Djokovic fans, this new version is sold with an additional strap — so you can wear the colors of your choice. The 42.7mm watch is sold in a special box with a note from Djokovic accompanying it.
