This weekend, the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2020 is taking place, and Swiss watch brand Reservoir has pulled up to the starting line, announcing its position as the Official Watch Brand for IDEC Sport racing team and unveiling an all-new GT Tour Black Skeleton watch.
Created in a limited edition of 24 numbered pieces, each of the 24 IDEC Sport Edition 2020 watches will be installed in the LMP2 IDEC Sport racing cars that compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A unique concept, once the race is over, the watches are removed from the cars and will be sold. Buyers of the watches will also receive an invitation to attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2021 edition pre-race or race (not including transportation or accommodation) and will get to visit the IDEC Sport team in the paddock and meet with the Reservoir team.
The watch is part of Reservoir’s GT Tour series that celebrates racing, competition and the excitement of precision and speed. The 43mm Black skeletonized GT Tour watch is crafted in matte black PVD titanium with a sand-blasted finish. The sapphire crystal reveals the open-worked self-winding mechanical movement. The watch boasts a retrograde minute hand (that jumps back to the beginning after completing 60 minutes), a jump hour indication and the power reserve (37 hours) display. The case back is also transparent for viewing the movement.
The dial is designed to reflect the gauges in a race car and the watch is finished with a black perforated calf leather strap to recall the leather driving gloves. Water resistant to 5 ATM, the GT Tour Black Skeleton is equipped with quick-release spring bars for easy changing of the straps. Each watch is sold in a wooden box and with an extra NATO strap and a miniature model of the car. It retails for $19,990 – a pretty cool price considering the visit to the paddocks. (The brand also offers a standard GT Tour Skeleton in titanium non-PVD for $6,300.)
The 24 Hours of Le Mans race is the oldest and one of the most renowned endurance races in history. Begun in 1923 in Le Mans, France, the race is famous for testing not only the endurance, passion and precision of the drivers, but also the performance of the cars.
