Beginning yesterday and running until June 14, 2021, the Horological Society of New York (HSNY), in conjunction with Phillips in Association with Back & Russo, is running the Timepieces for HSNY: 2021 Charity Auction. The auction, which typically takes place during HSNY’s annual Gala that has been a tradition since 1866, is taking place online via Phillips’ Gallery One, a next generation auction experience that allows collectors to bid virtually from anywhere in the world.
This Arnold & Son Manhattan Bridge watch was made specifically for the HSNY auction.
A host of special timepieces will be up for auction, all with a ‘No Reserve’ policy. All proceeds will benefit HSNY in its mission to advance the art and science of horology, which includes offering financial aid to watchmaking institutions and full-time watchmaking students in the United States.
Through Timepieces for HSNY: 2021 Charity Auction, HSNY offers seven incredible timepieces, including a watch created for HSNY by Arnold & Son depicting the Manhattan Bridge (lot 7). The HM HSNY watch features a miniature painting the bridge on the dial displayed against a mother-of-pearl sky. At night, windows in thebrick buildings, the street lights and Manhattan Bridge are illuminated thanks to Super-LumiNova on the hand-painted scene.

Other highlights include a Rolex Ref. 5500 with inside case back stamped 1002 that is a rare stainless steel wristwatch with bracelet, “Pool-Intairdril” logo, and presentation box, c. 1979. This is lot #1 and the watch is estimated to sell for between $2,000 to $3,000. A silver Ulysse Nardin chronometer deck watch, circa 1942 and donated by the brand is also up for sale. It was originally made for the British Hydrographic Service and is sold with brass case, wooden box, and extract from the archives. LOT #2; Estimate: $2,000 to $4,000.

A Patek Philippe Ref. 3589 fine, rare, and unusual white gold cushion-shaped wristwatch with blue Roman-numeral dial, circa 1973 comprises lot #3, and is expected to fetch between $3,000 and $5,000, while a rare 2014 Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° mechanical model (not the watch, a model of the mechanism) is also up for sale.
