You see a magazine that looks like it’s super interesting — something you really want to read about. So you rush out to your nearest Barnes & Noble book store to buy it. But it’s not there. Why? Because it can’t be bought. That’s the premise behind the newest eponymous print magazine by Watchonista. A top-notch watch information platform and partner to brands and retailers, Watchonista has been rocking it when it comes to online readership and promotions. So much so, that the company opted to issue a print magazine with solid watch and lifestyle content. The first issue — Watchonista Volume 01 – launches today.
Being published twice annually, the new glossy magazine will not be sold in bookstores or even on Watchonista.com. Instead, it can only be obtained via a “Find the Magazine” button on Watchonista’s home page. That button will let interested parties find a retailer or brand boutique near them that carries the magazine. Visit the store, get a free copy. The question is, do you want to read the magazine that badly that you are going to run out to a retail store? Maybe. After all, it is nearly 100 percent original content and photos — with some really wonderful adventure and lifestyle pictures. Plus, of course, you’ll now be familiar with a retailer who most likely carries the brand you love.
The first issue is definitely one watch lovers will want to see. In fact, it may be the first in a new “collection” you’ll be starting. The 120-page issue not only covers watches, but also focuses on collector experiences, boasts a “Watchonista Lounge” section with guides to cigars and cognac and, of course, offers some great interviews with industry execs and brand ambassadors and luminaries. Additionally, the pages are chocked with nearly 99 percent original Watchonista photography.
Watchonista was founded in 2009 as a progressive digital platform by and for watch collectors and connoisseurs. The content found on the site is an immersive experience, produced by the company’s team of writers. The new print publication follows suit. Since its inception, Watchonista has insisted it is not a selling platform. This is also a motto it follows for the magazine. It is “The Watch Magazine You Can’t Buy.” Among the places you can pick one up: Omega’s US boutiques, WEMPE Fifth Avenue, Watches of Switzerland, Mayors, Topper Jewelers, and more.
