Accutron, one of the watch communities most loved electronic powered watch brands, has announced a new limited edition time piece and partnership with La Palina, . The Accutron La Palina Limited Edition Spaceview 2020 powered by electrostatic energy.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, Accutron was first unveiled in 1960 as the world’s first fully electronic watch and was known for developing its tuning fork movement. At the time of its original launch it was the most accurate time keeping device ever created. The foundation of the technology became an integral component in America’s space program.
The brand was revived in 2020 and helps in part explain the connection to the brand La Palina. La Palina who got their start as a cigar manufacturer dating to 1896 out of Chicago. Three decades later after the brands founding, the original cigar company went suffered the same fate as many other cigar manufactures at the time and folded. In 2010 the grandson of the founder revived the brand as a signature luxury cigar brand.
The link between the two brands goes beyond both being historic American brands. The two partnered together to celebrate Accutron’s 60th anniversary and continue their partnership unveiling a new Accutron x La Palina Limited Edition Spaceview 2020 timepiece.
The La Palina Limited Edition Spaceview 2020 seeks to recreate the same open work design the original piece is famous for. Followers if the brand will recognize the signature green bridges, but the open work is now boasts a brown open-work dial with signature Accutron green accents and brown outer ring, light green super luminous markers, hour and minute hands and warm yellow second hand. In keeping with the rich cigar history of La Palina, the watch comes on a tobacco brown alligator strap and the watch comes with a humidor set with cigar cutter and Accutron blend cigars.
The humidor is 100% handmade by master craftsmen from the Nicaraguan region of Estelí. Selected by La Palina’s rare wood specialists and chosen for its exceptional figure and grain, all of the cedar was sustainably harvested from forests in Nueva Segovia, then slow aged for ten years giving the wood ample time to set. The humidor holds 50 cigars and includes an independent climate top with La Palina’s ‘ultimate perfect’ seal to maintain the ideal conditions for the cigars. Other finishing touches include recessed glass top with CO2 laser-finished logo and detail work, light espresso wood finish, a removable component for Boveda packets or other humidification inserts, and secondary drawer for smoking accessories.
The piece will be limited to 222 and will retail for $5,000. For those interested Accutron is taking preorders with an expected fall delivery. The release seems like a must add time piece for any who fancy themselves both watch enthusiasts as well as brother/sisters of the leaf. From the rich tobacco themed chocolate open dial work to the humidor that comes with the time piece, there is a great marriage of cultures.
