One thing we have learned from all of our readers is that, sometimes, what is affordable to one person may not be the case for another. So, the task of finding a quality affordable watch may turn into quite a timely endeavor. Swiss Legend, though, has managed to bridge the gap in the affordable watch market by offering precision-based, fashion-forward timepieces for under $400. The Swiss Legend brand began over a decade ago, but in 2013, the brand opted to have its watches Swiss-made.
Recently, we had the opportunity to wear a Swiss Legend Abyssos Automatic 2.0 SL-10062-A-SR-03. Lets get the price tag immediately out in the open: $399. The timepiece runs off a Swiss-made, self-winding mechanical 3 hand STP1-11 movement, complete with a 46-hour power reserve. The watch is durable, big and fits a functional need. The stainless steel case is 46mm in diameter, and features a unidirectional rotating bezel. Its screw-down crown ensures it is water resistant up to 1000 meters — enabling a utilitarian use. The Abysses watch is fitted with a sapphitek crystal.
As far as affordability goes, this watch is quite a bargain. While the movement may be made by the third party Swiss Technology Productions (STP), it’s still an automatic movement inside a diver’s watch for under $400. The dial itself has very large white luminous dot hour indicators, which come in handy when searching for the time at night or under water.
For my personal taste, this piece is a bit too bulky. I generally enjoy the smaller, classically sized watches. However, the Abyssos definitely makes a bold statement with its rugged, large features. There are multiple color patterns of this model besides this blue, steel and rose gold colored combination. For those who like large watches that make a definite impression this one may be worth taking a look at. It is also a good bet for hardworking people who just want to add a little style. Sometimes its nice to be able to have your cake and eat it too.
I have to say, I have always been rather ho-hum on swiss legend, as their early offerings seemed to be rather garish and low on refinement. That said, like Invicta, they seem to have stepped up their game a LOT, and are putting out pieces that are worth what you pay for them.
That means a lot in a world of $1000 watches that don’t seem to justify the sticker.
Having seen one of these in person, I will say that it’s not for everyone looks wise, but if you can pull it off, it’s a great looking watch, with attention to detail that isn’t common in it’s price range, with a solid movement.
I personally own one of these Swiss legends(stainless band)and I have to say I love it.as soon as you pick it up you can feel the quality of this watch.for me it fits great, looks great and pretty much will go with almost anything you wear.I personally own 23 watches ranging from bulova,invicta,omega,tag,1 Rolex, couple movados and a few longines watches and in all honesty I wear the Swiss Legend Abyssos more then any of them.it is a bit on the bulky side but wears well and fells very comfortable.in my opinion I think Swiss legend should have put a exhibition back on this watch so you can see the movement.to me,and sure a lot of other watch collectors would agree, watches are a work of art especially the movements.having said that I think all automatic watch movements should be exhibited so that everyone can see the how beautiful and intricate the movements are so they can appreciate the time and patience that goes into making these fine pieces.
I own the Abyssos in Rose Gold and Stainless Steel. It is a beautiful, overbuilt (in the best sense of the word), and stylish watch. I wear it on weekends and with casual wear. It’s hard to wear with long sleeves not rolled up, so I wear it more during the warmer part of the year. I get a lot of questions about the watch. People always want to pick it up and try it on.
I purchased the Abyssos for around $225.00 on World of Watches. This is a ridiculously low price for a Swiss-Made automatic dive watch. I couldn’t pass it up.
For the office and for dress I generally wear smaller sized, dressier watches that don’t attract attention, but its fun to strap this one on in my spare time.
i have the all black version of the abyssos 2.0 and i got it for $25.00 at K-Mart. No joke, it came with the case but it looked like it was missing an accessory and the manager there didn’t know anything about watches he told me its been sitting in inventory for a while and i said i would purchase it but all i have is $25.00 dollars. he sold it to me and i walked away as if i stole it 😀 haha.
