Movado Edge designed with Yves Behar
First unveiled to the world late last year, the new Movado Edge by Yves Behar gets new additions just in time for BaselWorld. So if you are looking for something a little more artistic and innovative in a watch? Check out the newest Movado Edge line, the first new Movado family inspired by the iconic Museum Dial since 2010.
The new watches unveiled there at the show – including one of the most entrancing blue dials – are the second generation in a line the brand created in cooperation with world famous industrial designer Yves Béhar, who puts a 21st century spin on the legendary dot. The newest Movado Edge 42mm chronograph is crafted in polished stainless steel with a concave sandblasted blue aluminum dial with raised polished tonal dot, sculpted ray-textured edge, Arabic minute ring, and glossy midnight blue timing subdials for a package that just looks like a mesmerizing sea on the wrist. The newest coloration joins its first-round siblings that were offered in black, silver and gold tone.
For the creation of this new line, Béhar and his firm, FuseProject, brought a three-dimensional aspect to the watch dial – creating a concave dial that reaches down from the edges to a bowl- or dish-shape that is at once alluring and modernistic. Béhar, who was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, and has lived in the USA for decades, said he was excited about working on the Movado Museum Dial, but also had a long-standing respect for the brand’s ties with art and modernism, and wanted to respect that in his watch design that takes the first Museum dial, designed in 1947 by Nathan George Horwitt, to new levels.
The dial is concave, but the famed dot raises upward from the dial.
The dial somewhat resembles the look of a volcano, a large round concave structure whose edges have ripples or ridges made over long periods of time. The legendary dot remains a focal point of the dial, but instead of being flat or concave, it is a 3D rendition that rises up out of the dial. Created in a highly polished finish, the dot takes on a life of its own, making the Movado Edge a refreshing delight.
