Known for its haute horology and love of astronomical complexities, Bovet 1822 unveils its newest Virtuoso VIII Chapter Two watch with flying tourbillon and big date, as well as 10 days of power reserve. The Virtuoso VIII Chapter Two watch is a deft blend of the masteries that came before it and is a unique expression of time.
A tour of the dial of the Virtuoso VIII Chapter Two
A journey around the dial gives the watch lover so much to indulge in. Starting on the top portion of the watch, there are two stunning aventurine glass subsidiary dials. The one on the left indicates the watch’s 10 days of power reserve, while the one on the right showcases the oversized date indication that is equipped with a rapid date corrector. The placement of the dials, and the outer rim that outlines them, form a horizontal number eight — sign of good luck.
The gold hands with luminescent tips point to the hours and minutes, while the seconds display is shown on the cage wheel at 6:00. Here, the stunning flying tourbillon escapement — made of titanium to reduce the weight and prevent magnetic impacts — boasts two arcs over it that are finely polished. The two-sided double-face flying tourbillon is patented.
The Complicated Movement of the Virtuoso VIII Chapter Two
The Caliber 17BM06-GD is a hand-wound movement that features a single barrel. It is further equipped with a patented spherical winding system and patented toothing with multiple gearing. Additionally, a variable inertia balance wheel contributes to the high performance of the watch. The hairspring is fixed to the tourbillon bridge using a double-ended stud support. Naturally, as with all Bovet watches, each component is meticulously finished by hand.
The 44mm watch with Fleurier case is offered in either 18-karat 5N rose gold or in 18-karat white gold. It features the crown with Fleurier bow – a signature of this case – located at 12:00 so as not to disrupt the symmetry and balance of the timepiece. Because of the complexity of this watch, just 50 pieces will be made, each retailing for $178,000.
