Breguet Classique La Musicale
You may recall that we toured Paris with Breguet just about a year ago (you can read about that here) and then visited Breguet Manufacture. We were lucky enough to also get inside the brand’s tourbillon room and you can read all about that here. One thing we didn’t bring you then was a close-up look at one of the brand’s more marvelous timepieces: The Classique La Musicale. Now, with this watch as a nominee for the Grand Prix d’ Horlogerie de Genève “Men’s Striking Watches” category, it’s a nice time to do so. This 48mm masterpiece of sound and aesthetics houses the self-winding 777 mechanical movement with silicon escapement and balance spring.
The watch not only offers hours and minutes, but also is equipped with an audible alarm and a patented musical mechanism and rotating disk dial that work together harmoniously. Crafted in 18-karat rose gold, the Classique plays Johann Sebastian Bach’s Badinerie (on demand or at a desired time) via a music-box-like mechanism that operates via a disc system. The sound is amplified thanks to an engine-turned membrane in metallic glass under the movement. The musical masterpiece whose dial dances to the tune — view it in the video below — retails for just under $100,000.
