Breguet N¯1-8-82_Automatic
Breguet presetns a unique retrospective, Breguet: Art and Innovation in Watchmaking — taking place a the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco at the Legion of Honor. The exhibit is the largest of Breguet antique timepieces ever to be shown in the United States and is the first-ever retrospective of Abraham-Louis Breguet to be seen here.
The exhibition will be presented from September 19 through January 10, 2016 in the California Palace of the Legion of Hnor in San Francisco. More than 70 pocket watches, clocks and other horological estaminets will be on display.
Abraham-Louis Breguet
Born in Neuchâtel in 1747, Breguet set up his own business in Paris in 1775, where he revolutionized horology on both technical and aesthetic levels, including work with marine chronometers, perpetuelles, tourbillons and repeaters. Breguet has a long relationship with the US market. In 1797, Breguet made his first American sale of three “military caliber” watches to a client named Meredith – followed the next year by two more watches. In 1800, the firm sold a repeating watch to General Knox, American Minister for War. Throughout the early 1800’s, the brand sold watches to a host of clients in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and other areas.
