Often, when watch brands create timepieces for women, they bedeck them in diamonds and forget to add the functions that today’s active women want. Not so with Chopard. The brand’s newest L.U.C Flying T Twin Ladies watch brings both beauty and brains to the forefront. While the brand released its flying tourbillon automatic movement in 2019, it wasn’t used in a watch for women. Now, however, Chopard turns to this caliber to power the two new Flying T Twin ladies watches.

The purpose of the flying tourbillon – located at 6:00 on the dial via a large aperture — is to compensate for errors in timekeeping due to the effects of gravity when the watch is in certain positions on the wrist. The Chopard Manufacture caliber L.U.C 96.24-L movement with Chopard’s proprietary Twin technology boasts two stacked barrels that, with highly precise adjustments, offer 65 hours of power reserve. The automatic winding is accomplished via a 22-karat gold micro-rotor (the platinum version showcases a micro-rotor set with diamonds). The watch also is fitted with a stop-seconds function, typically rare on a tourbillon, that enables the wearer to set the watch to the exact second. Additionally, the caliber is ultra-thin, so the diameter of the watch does not have to be too large. These new models are 35mm in diameter.

With this timepiece and its robust mechanical movement that boasts chronometer certification, Chopard offers women the choice of a complicated movement in a beautiful case. The two watches – one in 18-karat ethical rose gold and one in platinum – are being released just in time for the holidays. The ethical gold version features a mother-of-pearl dial with hour markers set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The platinum version features a dial completely set with 282 diamonds, while the ethical gold version is set with diamonds on the case. Just 25 pieces of each will be made.
The entire 189-part movement is made in-house at Chopard, and each piece is meticulously finished to exacting standards, wearing the watch the Poinçon de Genève seal that testifies to the craftsmanship within. The watch is finished with a glare-proof sapphire crystal and exhibition case back. Each watch is fitted with either a blue brushed fabric strap or a green alligator strap.
