Mother’s Day is around the corner and if you haven’t started thinking about the perfect gift, it’s time. Literally. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Versace Watches – a line first started by Gianni Versace in 1990. I was actually lucky enough to be one of the few watch journalists present when the line made its debut on a cool evening in Italy. Now, on the anniversary of that initial visionary launch, Versace unveils the DV-25 — a brand inspired by the past but destined for today’s savvy, fashion-conscious women.
The new square-shaped DV 25 watch combines some of the most iconic design codes of the House, including the Greek key motif, which is engraved on the bezel and on the circular inner round ring on the square dial. The watch also features the famed Medusa head on the crown, and has V shaped Greek-key engraved metal links on the strap.
It is sold in various colors — including classic black, cool white, warm tan and alluring lavender. It is also offered in an array of metal finishes ranging from steel to IP gold plated – and comes with or without diamonds. At first glance, it is a simple, alluring Versace watch. But on the wrist, it has a real eye-catching presence. I know, I own one. In fact, I find it a refreshing change for an evening out when i just want a dash of — well — designer.
The watch is incredibly well made and affordable, at just about $1,995 (with some models obviously ranging higher). The movement that powers the watch is Swiss — a Ronda quartz movement. Being Swiss made is something not all designer/fashion brands can pull off and still maintain affordability.
Additonally, the watch celebrates 25 years of timepieces for this fashion house. “We are celebrating 25 years in the watch industry,” says Paola Marai, CEO and President of the Timex Luxury Group. “And while that doesn’t sound like much when other brands are celebrating 150 years or so, it is a big deal because there are almost no fashion brands that can claim this today — 25 years. As of today there are possibly more than 100 fashion brands in the industry, but I can count on one hand how many have been in business 25 years.”
The watches are inspired by the past but offer a firm air of modernity — Versace through and through.
