Chopard is debuting its first jumping-hour watch, the L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25, in honor of the 25th anniversary of its Fleurier Manufacture. This Poinçon de Genève-certified timepiece is a stunning example of Chopard’s genius in melding understated design and technical boldness—a pairing particularly evident within the L.U.C collection. There are just 100 pieces in this limited and numbered edition.
The Dial of the Chopard L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25
I am a loyal fan of white enamel dials, and this one is a stunner. The L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 has an in-house Grand Feu enameled dial atop an ethical 18-karat rose gold base, and its perfect simplicity is sublime. Each is fired multiple times at high temperatures, which is a difficult feat in itself considering what calamity can occur at any step of the lengthy enameling process.
Chopard artisans continue the course by lightly polishing each dial to give it a gently domed appearance. Black enamel is then used via a similarly complex practice to produce the imagery—“L.U.Chopard,” Arabic numerals and the railway track hugging the circumference.
The hours emerge via a rose gold-framed aperture at 6 o’clock, which ensures that the minute hand does not obscure the instantaneous hour change. The dauphine central minutes hand is gilded, as is the baton-style power reserve indicator hand on the back of the watch.
The movement of the Chopard L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25
The very capable manually wound L.U.C 98.06-L is at the heart of this watch, providing power reserve of about eight days. Its four stacked and series-coupled barrels, based on the unique Chopard Quattro technology, enable the L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 to offer this generous reserve despite the energy required for the operation of the hours disc.
A few other notable points: the movement’s balance spring is equipped with a Phillips terminal curve that controls the oscillations of the regulating organ, and it is fitted with a swan’s neck regulator enabling fine adjustment. Its overall thickness is just 4.85mm. The beauty of the finely finished and decorated movement—with its Côtes de Genève motif on the bridges—is visible via the transparent caseback.
The case of the Chopard L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 watch
The 40mm case is crafted from ethical 18-karat rose gold and features both satin-brushed and polished components. The 18-karat rose gold crown is imprinted with the L.U.C logo, and the exhibition back is fitted with a glare-proof sapphire crystal.
The case is 10.30mm thick and water resistant to 30 meters. It is fitted on a hand-sewn matte-brown alligator leather strap with cognac-colored alligator leather lining. The polished and satin-brushed pin buckle is 18-karat rose gold. Created in a limited edition of 100 pieces, the watch retails for $44,700.
