This year marks the sixth year in a row that German brand A. Lange & Sohne unveils a limited edition Handwerkskunst watch. The Handwerkskunst watches are all about honoring the arts the brand has mastered, including finishing, engraving, relief work, and more, as well as watchmaking. This year’s Handwerkskunst is a stunning celestial rendition of the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar with an incredibly alluring starry sky motif.
Marking the first time that A. Lange & Sohne combines enamel and engraving on the Handwerkskunst dial – which consists of six parts — this new piece features a white gold dial hand painted in blue enamel and featuring white gold stars visible in shimmering appeal thanks the hand-engraving into the enamel. The moonphase disk – accurate for 122.6 years – also features the same blue enamel and white gold engraving.
Underscoring the brand’s attention to the celestial theme, a hinged caseback (in half-hunter style) features a blue enamel center with a relief engraving of the Goddess Luna meant to personify the moon. When one lifts the hinged cover, a sapphire caseback beneath it allows for viewing of the finely finished movement, that also features a starry night motif.
The new 41.9mm 18-karat white gold 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst is powered by the 631-part movement, manufacture caliber L101.1. It displays time in hours, minutes, subsidiary seconds, offers split-seconds chronograph (controlled by two column wheels) with a minute counter, and perpetual calendar day, date, month, moonphase and leap year indication. It is equipped with 42 hours of power reserve. The complicated and beautiful 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst 2017 watch is being built in a limited edition of just 20 pieces. It carries a retail price of approximately $346,000.
