We love Armin Strom – it is a brand we have written about many times before. In fact we even went racing with them at the Austin, TX, Formula 1 races. Armin Strom is all about excellence, exclusivity and precision, in addition to creating contemporary appeal. Now, here at BaselWorld, the brand releases several new timepieces that are a twist on their predecessors. Among them is the Armin Strom Racing Gravity watch, which reflects the aerodynamics of the F1 cars it sponsors – Team Marussia. In fact, for the 2014 Formula 1 racing season, Armin Strom updates the Racing Collection with two new calibers made from a Formula 1 engine. Indeed, careful machining and special processes turn parts of the used race car’s engine into watch parts for the timepiece. The machining of the visible bridges on the dial side reflects this. The watch is based on caliber AMW11, which has a 5-day power reserve and the power is provided by a micro-rotor mechanism and is one cool, sleek timepiece.
Also new is the Armin Strom Tourbillon Gravity Collection – first released a couple of months ago was the Fire version and that inspired the new collection. The Tourbillon Gravity reveals on the dial side the two opposites which animate every watch movement: winding mechanism and regulation. While the ingenious tourbillon mechanism ensures the most accurate possible regulation by diminishing the effects of gravity, the micro-rotor integrated in the caliber harnesses this power to supply energy to the gear train. The hands display the time from an off centered axis. Now, in addition to the Fire version in 18-karat rose gold, the new Tourbillon Gravity with the Caliber ATM13 is available in Water (stainless steel), Air (made of titanium) and Earth- in black PVD. We will bring you more hands-on images post Basel- stay tuned.
