Today marks a very big day for independent watch brand Oris. Headquartered in the Swiss village of Hölstein, Oris today is one of the more progressive watch brands on the market – and at quality/value prices that are pretty difficult to pass up. Today, the brand unveils the Oris Hölstein Edition 2020, as well as updating its website to and E-Shop so that customers can select their limited-edition number of choice (if it’s not gone already) and to purchase via an authorized retail partner. This gives retailers who have been particularly hard-hit by the Covid-19 closures, a chance to reconnect with customers.
I was fortunate enough to be able to go hands-on with the new Oris Holstein Edition 2020 watch earlier this year when I joined the brand in Colorado for its official pre-Basel event. It is a limited edition watch that honors the brand’s roots. Oris was founded in 1904 — a partnership between watchmakers Paul Cattin and Georges Christian – and was named for a local creek in the city of Holstein. The brand constantly pushes the envelope when it comes to creativity and function, but also regularly embraces its watchmaking roots. The Oris Holstein Edition 2020 is not exception.
Oris Holstein Edition 2020 Boasts Bronze Beauty
One of the most outstanding features of this watch is the fact that it is created in solid bronze – with a bronze bracelet – the first in the Swiss watchmaking industry. The bronze will achieve its own patina over time – making each watch unique. Inspired by the wild and wonderful 1960’s, the 43mm Oris Holstein Edition 2020 watch features case, bezel, bezel insert, crown and pushers all in bronze.
The chronograph watch’s case back is high-grade stainless steel engraved with the beloved Oris Bear — a cute bear that is meant to embrace the Oris spirit of warmth and honesty. Just 250 pieces will be made, each retailing for $5,200.
As if the watch and the new options on the websites E-Shop page aren’t enough, Oris also turned to Swiss musician James Gruntz (who plays at jazz festivals around the world)who created an original track called ‘1904’ — inspired by the year Oris was born.
