We in the watch world are all familiar with Hodinkee and even Red Bar Crew and the special collaboration watches they have made with brands over the years. However, the newest addition to the collaborative world is the fairly young collectors group, Collective™. Founded in 2018 , the Collective is a group of watch enthusiasts who are now opening membership internationally. Collective was started in America by two founders, Gabe Reilly and Asher Rapkin, and already this IWC partnership is the third watch created in a partnership.
The new C.03 (C.O1 was a Zenith El Primero watch and C..02 was an H. Moser Pioneer) watch celebrates the partnership between Collective Horology and IWC Schaffhausen and it launches today at an event hosted by IWC and Collective at the IWC boutique in New York. As mentioned, the partnership also launches the group’s expansion to London where it invites watch lovers there to join. The IWC collaborative watch references the late 1990’s and the brand’s first pilot’s chronograph watch, IWC’s Fliegerchronograph 3706. The new watch is designed to honor IWC’s great past with pilot watches. The C.03 Collective Horology and IWC Pilot’s Chronograph has a few special details that are exclusive to this piece.
The Collective Horology C.03 collaborative Pilot’s Watch Chronograph with IWC boasts white Super-LumiNova® hands and indexes, Screw-in crown, Glass secured against displacement caused by drops in air pressure.
The C.03 houses an in-house-made caliber( the automatic 69385 with 46 hours of power reserve) and boasts a monochromatic motif. The days of the week are shown in German as a nod to the brand’s roots in the Swiss-German region of Schaffhausen, Switzerland. That German wheel, along with a black rotor and the dark design is a collector’s delight. Add to that the fact that this is the only black-dialed IWC 41mm pilot chronograph and you have a sure-fire winner.
Of Couse, like any collaborative effort, the watch is being made in a limited edition. This one is made in a limited number of 125 pieces.
