Innovation and evolution are the buzz words in the watch world. Consistently breaking down the barriers and creating something entirely unique is what this industry thrives on. Often times the newness refers to a particular aesthetic. Jaeger-LeCoultre, known for it’s innovation, has a particular timepiece in its product line up that we just love, and want to take a few minutes to re-visit its beauty and technical advancement: the Duomètre Unique Travel Time watch.
Powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s own Dual-Wing® concept, the in-house Calibre 383 houses two barrels (one for each time zone), each one boasting a 50-hour power reserve. Within this calibre the ease in handling such complications is apparent. By turning the crown counterclockwise, the timekeeping barrel is wound, while a clockwise turn winds the travel time-zone barrel. This Dual-Wing® concept has proven to be a landmark milestone for Jaeger-LeCoultre in terms of creative micro-mechanical engineering.

Prior to its inception, a timepiece would utilize a traditional calibre to handle the additional time zone as well as to tell the standard time. However, this was done at the risk of hindering the accuracy and precision of the piece as a whole. To tackle this issue, the makers at Jaeger-LeCoultre didn’t set out to reform the standard mechanics. They created an entirely new movement to properly house these complications — the Dual-Wing® concept.
Now, in a new rendition (Ref. 6063540), the movement of this cutting-edge caliber, with its 498 parts and 54 jewels, rests within a 42mm 18-karat white gold case with a stunning granulated dial. In fact, the dial is the heart of the watch’s rarity. The finely chiselled silver-toned finish is done entirely by hand. Calling on the expertise of a master artisan, each bump and groove is original and unique creating an impressive scene of fine grains and surface shines.
Beyond the obvious hours, minutes, and central seconds functions, the second time-zone sub-dial features a jumping digital hour with a central minute hand of its own. With a power reserve indicator just below the dual time zone subdial, the globe resting at 6 o’clock illustrates the planet’s multiple time zones with a faint day/night indicator. The back of the timepiece not only displays the inner workings of Jaeger LeCoultre’s calibre through a sapphire crystal, but also it has the various timezone cities engraved on the outer casing. Complete with an alligator leather strap and a 5ATM water resistance, this new rendition with alluring dial sells for a fitting $51,000.
