Yes, that’s right, from Versace. This fashion-forward watch brand has stepped up its watchmaking a few notches—turning to top Swiss movements and classic elegance that befits its namesake. Some of its best-selling collections are truly worthy of a closer look.
Being a fan of mechanical watches, I was thrilled to put the new special edition DV One Skeleton Chronograph on my wrist. The 43.5mm case is crafted in ceramic titanium – a high-tech compound that is light weight but extremely strong – giving it a bold look and feel. The black dial, with right side open to reveal the meticulous detailing, machining and perlage finish of the automatic movement, is immediately arresting.
The movement is a Swiss ETA 2892 base with a chronograph module added to it by the atelier of Dubois-Depraz. It is built in a limited edition of just 500 pieces. The DV One Skeleton Chronograph offers a striking three-dimensional dial layout that not only offers a view of the finishing and the date indication on multiple levels, but also offers an alluring gold and blue bridge layout with red accents to connect the chronographs counters. Because the bracelet is also made of the ceramic titanium material- it is incredibly light-weight and comfortable on the wrist.
Horology enthusiasts who are looking for a great, substantial mechanical Swiss-made product at an incredibly affordable price will want to look at this watch close up. It is offered in two-tone versions with rose gold IP accents (like I have been wearing), or in monochrome versions with steel. The fixed bezel features a tachymeter scale for measuring speeds and the watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
The performance of this watch — which I wore swimming and horseback riding – is top notch. The look of the two-tone version we are reviewing fit nicely from sporty weekend to business meetings and even out at night. While the power reserve is slightly shorter than I’d like – because I’d like power reserve to be at least 8 days — this is a watch I keep coming back to, for sport, for dress, for everyday. The best part of the mechanical and technically advanced Versace winner – the price: $5,495.
