Some things just go together: pants with pockets, peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, fish and chips, needle and thread, a hug and a kiss, Captain America and Iron Man … you get the idea. For horology the universal pairing is the chronograph watch and racing. In accordance with that union, and in celebration of the next generation of the iconic Porsche 911, Porsche Design is releasing the 911 Chronograph Timeless Machine Limited Edition.

Since its founding in 1963 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche the Porsche brand has been tied to the history of racing and everything victory in the sport represents, speed, precision, passion and an unrelenting desire to be the very best. In 1972 the brand released the Chronograph I, which was the first all black timepiece released by the manufacture. Now in its 8th iteration, the 911 Chronograph Timeless Machine Limited Edition looks to add to the already rich history and already is wowing sports enthusiasts everywhere.

Fittingly the 911 Chronograph Timeless Machine Limited Edition will be limited to 911 pieces. The styling elements draw their inspiration from the design queues of the racing icon automobile. A narrow, low profile bezel was applied to maximize legibility of the dial and the subdial of the piece displays the words “Timeless Machine” and bright red stop function and central second hands. White hands and indices are juxtaposed against a black background which are a nod to the dashboard of the sports car the piece is named for. Additionally and in the same breadth, the choreograph counters are inspired by the speedometer. The piece draws inspiration from more than just the visual queues of the vehicle, the lightweight principle that governs the design of Porsche’s engine carries over to the selection of the metal for the case of the piece, which is constructed of a hypoallergenic titanium. The lugs are cut-out in way to offer a minimalist design and the leather strap is crafted from the same leather used in the interior of the legendary car.
The piece is powered by the ETA Valjoux 7750 and is the same movement that powered the first ever Porsche Design watch in 1972, the Chronograph I. The movement is visible through the exhibition case back and has been given a Porsche Design Icon Rotor. Also visible on the back of the piece is what print the particular watch is in the release. The watch is currently available in Porsche Design stores, Porsche Centers, specialty dealers and online at www.porsche-design.us for $5,411 and comes in a special limited edition box with badge.
