Meet the exquisite new Mido Multifort Datometer watch, made in honor of Mido’s 100th anniversary this year.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Swiss watch brand Mido. The company, founded in 1918, is committed to unveiling new collections throughout the entire year honoring its heritage and its positioning for the future. Late last year, the brand unveiled the Commander Big Date watch, based on a model made without interruptions since 1959. Now, Mido releases the vintage-inspired Multifort Datometer Limited Edition watch.
Billed as a part of history for the wrist, the Multifort Datometer recalls one of the brand’s early flagship models, the Multifort. This collection was first unveiled to the world in 1934, but Mido was inspired by a model released to the world in 1939. By turning to its archives to honor history, and to its designers and watchmakers to poise that history for today’s lifestyles, Mido has created what is one helluva good looking timepiece.
Mido Multifort Datometer Limited Edition
The Mido Multifort Datometer is inspired by a timepiece from the 1930’s.
To begin with, the new Multifort Datometer is clean in design, easy to read and impressive to look at. The generous case dimensions – 40mm in diameter –make it the perfect size without being too big. Crafted in polished- and satin-finished stainless steel with a rose gold PVD treatment, the watch has a sandblasted silvered dial and sports rose-gold hued hands and markers. Arabic numerals in black (transfers) mark the key hours: 12, 3, 6 and 9. The numerals are also treated with SuperLuminova. There is an outer minute track and outer date indication with red-tipped pointer hand to indicate the date.
In all, the look is clean and fresh yet dramatically retro in feel. In fact, Mido recreated the original design almost exactly – but with additions that make today’s version easier to read and more lively in style. Those additions include the aforementioned red-varnish-tipped date hand (the original version was all gold), and the sand-finished silvered dial (the original version was cream colored). There is also a black-varnished seconds hand that makes its way around the dial.
The new Mido Multifort Datometer is based on this 1939 model.
Mido Multifort Datometer Powered by the Caliber 80
A new automatic movement, Caliber 80, which was created exclusively for Mido to honor the 100th anniversary, powers the watch. The Caliber 80, with 80 hours of power reserve, is referred to by the brand (and written on the dial above the 6) as Super-Automatic. With an ETA CO7.6111 base, this 25-jeweled caliber is built using some top-of-the-line components, including a Nivaflex NM mainspring, and Elinchron II balance spring.
The movement – with oscillating weight bearing the Geneva strips motif and Mido logo– can be viewed through the sapphire caseback. It should be noted, too, that the crystal on this watch is a raised box sapphire.
Finished with a brown leather strap and pink buckle, the watch is water resistant to 50 meters. This Mido Multifort Datometer with exclusive date indicator is being produced in a limited edition of 1918 pieces – honoring the year of the brand’s founding. If the look of this watch hasn’t grabbed you at first sight, the price might: $1,350.

Oh, and word has it that this fall the brand will release a limited edition of 100 pieces in solid gold.
