Buben and Zorweg One Perpetual Calendar
Easily one of the hottest complications here at BaselWorld 2013 this year is the perpetual calendar wristwatch. A sophisticated complexity, these watches track so much more than the minutes and hours. One of the top feats of watchmaking, perpetual calendar wristwatches typically hold anywhere from 300 to 600 pieces in their complex movements – and offer indications that are accurate for hundreds of years. They track and display, automatically, the day, month, and date – self adjusting for short months and leap years. Most of today’s perpetual calendar watches typically are built to track time until the year 2100 before needing an adjustment. At that point in time (2100), the leap year that should occur will be skipped so that real time (according to the Gregorian calendar) coincides correctly with solar time. Thus, on March 1, 2100, the average perpetual calendar needs a watchmaker to make a fine correction to the movement.

Ellicott RS38 Perpetual Calendar
Buben & Zorweg, whose ONE-Perpetual Calendar (announced last year) is making delivery now, features a Time Mover® – Hand wound. The design provides a view of the heart of the “ONE – Perpetual Calendar” with integrated BZ01-MHO movement, modified by Martin Braun exclusively for Buben & Zorweg. It features a power reserve of 156 hours, a silicon escapement wheel and a movement diameter of 39.60 mm round out this piece. It is offered now in 99 pieces each of rose gold, white gold and platinum.
Ellicott, which is releasing the Master Complication RS 38 complicated perpetual calendar watch. This superb 18-karat rose gold piece offers perpetual calendar with leap year and moonphase indicator, as well as minute repeater. Exceptionally slim at 5.1mm, it consists of 388 different components, and ranks as the world’s thinnest minute repeater movement with perpetual calendar and moon-phase display.
