With roots dating back more than 230 years, Girard-Perregaux looks to the future. The brand has launched its e-commerce platform and does so with the launch of a bold new online-exclusive watch: Laureato Absolute Wired offered as an online exclusive.
The newest Laureato edition continues the line’s saga that began in 1975. The sports watch with octagon-shaped bezel and integrated bracelet was an immediate hit then, and now the brand looks to bring that aesthetic clearly into the 21st century. The new Laureato Absolute “Wired” watch boasts a futuristic look and high-tech materials that underscore the watch’s high-mech movement. Here are three reasons why you may want to take a closer look.
High-Tech Carbon Glass
The chronograph watch measures 44mm in diameter and features a case made of high-tech Carbon Glass. Carbon Glass is formed using layers of carbon fiber and fiberglass that are fused in high temperatures and at high pressure. The resulting matte-finished and slightly textured material must then be milled into the exact case shape. Each case is unique because each has its own layering of materials and, when milled, showcases different striations. The bezel is also made of Carbon Glass but is infused with electric blue hues for added drama.
The Carbon Glass is incredibly strong and durable, but also very light in weight thanks to the fiberglas elements. As such, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Wired weighs just 94 grams, or 3.3 ounces (about the same as a deck of cards without a box).
Sandwich Dial Construction
The dial of this futuristic looking piece is created using a sandwich construction. The upper matte black layer is perforated to allow for partial viewing of the lower white level through the apertures. The date is showcased in this manner with white numerals. The chronograph features three registers that sit below the upper dial layer. The overall effect offers depth and dimension. The dial is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Top-Notch Watchmaking
The Laureato Absolute Wired is endowed with a Manufacture movement, the self-winding Calibre GP03300-1058. The self-winding chronograph caliber is composed of 419 components, and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). The watch is equipped with a minimum of 46 hours of power reserve. Finished with a black rubber with fabric look strap, the Laureato Absolute Wired is created in a limited edition of just 88 pieces. Each retails for $17,700.
According to Patrick Pruniaux, Girard-Perregaux’s Chief Executive Officer, “Despite turning 230 years old Girard-Perregaux has no intention of remaining stuck in the past. In fact, launching e-commerce is just one of the many moves Girard- Perregaux will make in 2021 that reflects our philosophy of constant improvement and striving to maintain a competitive edge. While we will remain exclusive by way of limited launches and partnerships, catering to our clients in an inclusive way is just as important. Indeed, e-commerce helps us do this by augmenting consumer convenience in today’s connected world. It only seems fitting that we offer an ultramodern version of the iconic Laureato to complement this important milestone.”
