Bringing affordability and ingenuity to the table at BaselWorld 2014, Tissot –makers of Swiss watches since 1853 – introduces the Tissot PRS 516 Extreme. This watch is today’s interpretation of the well-known 1960’s Tissot PR 516 watch, which was a tribute to motorsports of the time. That original model had a distinctive strap that integrated cut-out circles to emulate the steering wheel covers of race cars of the time. Today’s watch also recalls the races with a textured, honeycomb rubber strap with racing stripes down the side. It features accents on the dial and bezel that emulate the modern dashboard instrumentation. The automatic watch is crafted in black PVD coated 316L stainless steel and features a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. A sapphire caseback allows for viewing the movement. While meant for racing enthusiasts and car lovers, the watch is, nonetheless, water resistant to 100 meters – making it a sleek, aerodynamic design with ultimate function. It will retail for $1,450.
Also new from Tissot is the Tissot T-Race Touch Aluminum, which provides wearers with 11 tactile functions thanks to the Swiss made quartz movement. The aluminum cased watch is water resistant to 100 meters and is offered in blue, green, orange or black and retails for $575. It offers a great sporty appeal. Other news includes a T-Complication Chronometer, a LeLocle Small Second with classic appeal and several new ladies’ timepieces — we will bring you those post-Basel. Stay tuned.
