Each time I pass through the San Francisco airport, I am inspired by the beauty of the terminals — each featuring a different artistic exhibition thanks to the SFO Museum (that was established by the Airport Commission in 1980 to humanize the airport).
This past week, I lingered a little longer in the United terminal — inspired by the Art of Recology exhibition. Essentially Recology is a company that provides waste collection, recycling and disposal to more than 100 communities n San Francisco. The new Artist in Residence Program has been developed to reach the community and bring home the concept of just how much we waste.
Artists are given free roam of the disposal facilities and use whatever they choose to create meaningful art. Here are just a few examples of pieces that made me think twice about the things I dispose of and how I could put them to good, recycled use.
