In its unyielding quest for performance and precision, Vacheron Constantin regularly unveils new movements and new timepieces with coveted functions. Today, the brand releases the all-new Traditionnelle Chrono Perpetual Calendar watch, with new in-house-made 1142 QP caliber. The watch holds the Hallmark of Geneva certification.
Retailing for $150,000, the 43mm platinum watch deftly blends the perpetual calendar and chronograph complications. The high-tech movement is entirely designed and developed in house and offers date, days, months, leap years and moon phases, as well as a direct-drive seconds hand and 30-minute counter for the column-wheel chronograph. The small seconds are located at 9:00 on the dial (opposite the 30-minute counter) for harmonious balance. The calendar will need no adjustment until March 1, 2100.
Additionally, the oscillation frequency of the balance is 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), enabling higher chronograph energy and increased reliability and shock resistance. The new 324-part, mechanical manual wind caliber with 48 hours of power reserve replaces the previous 1141 QP (which beat at 2.5Hz). The caliber is visible via a sapphire crystal caseback.
In order to qualify for the prestigious Seal, the movement and the watch must be made in the canton and be keenly finished according to strict Hallmark of Geneva standards, known as one of the most rigorous certifications. You can read about those standards here.
In the design of the watch, Vacheron Constantin adheres to key design codes for this much-coveted Traditionnelle, incorporating stepped case, fluted pattern on the back, dauphine style hands, as well as offering a white tachymeter scale and a distinctive railway minute track on the alluring gray-hued dial.
In fact, the gray dial features variations of the color, ranging from a slate gray background with lighter gray chronograph minute counters and a rich gray and 22-karat white gold moon display. The moonphase indicator features a smiling moon face and a serious moon phase – recalling pocket watches of yesteryear.
The Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle chronograph perpetual calendar (Ref. 5000T/000P-B048) is finished with a hand-stitched Mississippiensis alligator leather strap secured by a 950 platinum folding clasp. It is sold in a watch winder presentation box.
