Continuing our coverage of the Year of the Monkey watches, we take a look at the Vacheron Constantin “Metiers d’Art, Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” collection — this year with the new “Year of the Monkey” watch. The brand offers two versions, one with a blue dial and one with a Chinese red dial — each bearing the Hallmark of Geneva, demonstrating the brand’s technical excellence.
Each watch features the ancient arts of engraving, enameling and sculpting to depict its monkey. In this case, the outcome is a highly detailed, very realistic rendition of a monkey with foliage motif on the dial created via iconography etched directly into the metal. The Year of the Monkey watch is powered by the Caliber 2460 G4 movement with hands-free time display, achieved via four apertures that show the hours, minutes, days and date. Two different versions will be made: platinum with blue dial ($124,000) and 18-karat rose gold with red dial. Just 12 of each version will be built.
